water) will be required for power generation, transmission,
distribution systems and water technologies during the next two

Over the next 10 years, Arab Gulf states will have to invest n
excess of US$ 160 billion to meet the expanding residential and
industrial demand for electricity. Saudi Arabia's share is 85% of
this prospective investment. Energy demand in the gulf is growing at
between 7% and 10% per annum, compared to the global average of 3%.
Research predicts that the GCC's population will surge from around
28 million to 40 million in 2010, an annual growth rate of between
3% to 4% , one of the fastest in the world.
Water
The Saudi market for environmental goods and services in
the longer term is estimated to be worth $ 60 billion, this comes to
at 12% of the world market currently valued at $ 515 billion. A

sewage treatment facilities until the year 2040. Saudi Arabia is the
world's largest producer of desalinated water. At present the 30
desalination plants provides about 70% of KSA's drinking water needs

lines is Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC). SWCC made a new
record during the last fiscal year as the total output of its 30
plants rose to over one billion cubic meters, which is equal to 150
liters of water daily for each individual in the Kingdom.
